Rinus Van Alebeek – Letter from Berlin

I moved back to Berlin in the month of February 2018. The audio reports that I started in Poland will continue, albeit in a different form. I will still use my Sony Walkman, walk and talk, observe, think aloud and allow snippets of every day life to land on the surface of the magnetic tape.

November 2018 in Berlin. Emmanuel Rébus was on a short visit. I had asked a sound colleague if we (half-Diktat) could do a short set as an opening on an evening organised by him. Said colleague performed in a trio that evening, and by democratic vote (2-1)
it was decided against our live performance.

During the break we sat at the table, two walkman and Emmanuel’s found tapes (one found in Seoul) between us, one for playback, the other for record. That’s a big part of what you will hear on the recording.
