Antonio Mainenti and students from psychology faculty of the university of Pavia have used instagram and their mobile devices to work with sound.
“This project wants to realize a multimedial file as a union of the recordings made by the students in moments of everyday life and intimacy.  The purpose is to discover again the sounds that surround us and the ability to pay attention to them, also through the use of social network as Instagram and particularly its function to create videos. After a first test phase in which moments of daily life have been filmed, setting the accent on the sounds rather than on theimages, we focused just on recordings. We  try to highlight istants and actions that are often underestimated, but can have particular importance in the life of each one of us. We have made therefore a choice among the sent traces, which were divided: some have been mixed to create more elaborate effects, while others have been combined to evocative words to represent our vision of the oniric dimension.”

This is how ‘Ceci, n’est pas une Photo’ was presented.
“Sound, noise, music, words. Who doesn’t know them, who would be ready to say that we don’t know how to define them? Yet, how much can we be certain to possess them indeed? Our ears are deaf, they cut the bond with the world, focused on their silence filled with the same sounds, insensitive to the music of the true life. Who has sung accompanied by the rhythm of the heels on the asphalt, who has played together with the water, who writes chords to rustle some leaves and the swash of the waves on the hulls of the boats in the harbor? We begin our voyage in the world of the sounds, a world populated by laughing children, by the ticking of ping pong balls, by the rattle of trains, by the cowbells in the country, an oniric trip which begins when we lay down at night, and it ends with the intrusive “bipping†of the alarm clock in the morning.
The noises that surround us are the rhythm of our life. The breath and the pulsation of our heart accompany the melody of our being. We should learn to dance on them.”
