Don Campau presents musics from cassettes. These tapes are stored in his garage. There are thousands. Tapes started to arrive in the post eons ago and keep on arriving up to the present day. Don knows a lot of the artists in person or through a long and extensive mail exchange (mail as in letters with a stamp on it that got delivered by the postman).

That’s how every song comes with a story. And that’s also how the No Pigeonholes program developes itself as an encyclopedia of home-produced sounds and songs, most of them you’ve probably never heard of.

The No Pigeonholes radio show is a result of Don’s direct involvement with the cassette culture, the vast network of home-produced cassette exchangers that anticipated the internet, its social networks and the whole shabam of netlabels and free downloadable musicians. An attempt to archive the movement is in his Living Archive of Underground Music.
