On 17. and 18. April Disruption Network Lab organised a series of talks centred around Drone Systems and their Strategies. Set up by Tatiana Bazzichelli, Daniela Silvestrin and Kim Voss, the event turned out to be highly informative, giving lots of insight on the various effects of Drone warfare.

For the second day -information- was the main theme. The quest for the truth starts from the statement that Drones are highly accurate, combined with the fact that most of the victims who died of drone attacks were civilians who either got killed by mistake or because they happened to be in the neighbourhood.

In the first segment of our broadcast you hear the panel speak about tracking drones and reporting lives

Jack Serle, data journalist from the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in the UK talks about the secrecy of every aspect of a drone operation. Even the innocent victims of a drone attack remain anonymous. Together with colleagues from the press in Pakistan, he tries to track down the names of these individuals.

Tonje Hessen Schei, a filmmaker from Norway, talks about her documentary Drone. The documentary aims at getting to know the truth. The filmmaker went to the places hit by drone strikes, talked with people, but also talks with the other side to find out how future drone operators get recruited. The documentary is on its way to a bigger audience via festivals and media.

Dave Young is an artist, musician and researcher from Ireland. He talks about the methods used by the military and secret services to gather information. His own method of information gathering is based on scrutinising the internet.

The Q&A are moderated by Marc Garrett, a curator who works for Furtherfield in the UK

In the second segment of the broadcast you will _hear_ D R O N E, the documentary made by Tonje Hessen Schei. This will alter the sound coming from your speakers as you can imagine. And there’s lots more to imagine, as you let yourself guide by the interviews, the recordings en lieu and the dramatic music score.

The documentary is followed by a Q&A session with Brandon Bryant and Tonje Hessen Schei. And also in this Q&A time it becomes evident that the visitors of the conference were very motivated, in some cases very well informed.

Adrian Shephard attended the conferences, recorded and edited the talks and the questions and answers.

We will broadcast the second day on various hours from Tuesday 21.April to Sunday 26.April and will take care that people who live in a different timezone from ours (Rome/Berlin) can listen at a reasonable hour.
