Finally it is there, Don Campau’s audio-lecture on German Cassette Culture. He introduces, plays and informs about the cassettes he received in the last Century. From this mailcontact (mail as in post that arrives on your doormat) friendships started, but also his love for schlager music. Schlager music in California is a very exotic thing to listen to. Those living more close to Germany will be surprised to find oompah-oompah elements in some of the obscure tracks played in this show, the first part of German Cassette Culture.

The No Pigeonholes radio show is a result of Don’s direct involvement with the cassette culture, the vast network of home-produced cassette exchangers that anticipated the internet, its social networks and the whole shabam of netlabels and free downloadable musicians. An attempt to archive the movement is in his Living Archive of Underground Music.
